Speak-Up, Listen-Up, Follow-Up: Creating a Strong Ethical Culture

Field of Study: Behavioral Ethics
In an era of cataclysmic repercussions as a result of ethical breaches throughout the world, it is critical for senior management and the board of directors to exercise proactive oversight on issues of business integrity and compliance within their organizations. Jacqueline Brevard, senior advisor with GEC Risk Advisory LLC and the former chief ethics & compliance officer for Merck & Co., Inc., explains the importance of a speak-up, listen-up and follow-up environment in order to create a strong ethical culture within your organization.

Management Accounting Competencies for a Digital Age
Field of Study: Management Services
Management accounting, like many fields, is being disrupted by a whole host of new technologies, including Big Data, predictive analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, cognitive computing, machine learning and robotics process automation (RPA). Jeff Thomson, president and CEO of the Institute of Management Accountants, is a frequent speaker on the changing technological landscape that is impacting the accounting profession. He offers his insights into the rapid change of technology and the current state of affairs in management accounting.

Data Center Management: What You Need to Know
Field of Study: Management Services
Data center management is a growing major topic for many organizations today. It is the integration of information technology and facility management disciplines to centralize monitoring, management and intelligent capacity planning of a data center’s critical systems. Keyser Managing Director Patrick Wilcox tells us what accountants and financial managers need to understand related to issues involved with data centers. Topics discussed include: decommissioning, co-location facilities, cloud service providers and security considerations.

The Unfolding Tax Compliance Legacy of Wayfair.
Field of Study: Taxes
Governments do rely on tax revenues to fuel the vital services they provide to residents and businesses – from firefighting and public education to water system repair and road maintenance. Sales and use taxes have long been key sources of state governments’ budgets and, in fact, have been their greatest single stream of revenue since the mid-1900s. The Supreme Court last year gave states a green light to collect online sales tax from out-of-state businesses without setting guardrails. Lindsay LaCava, a partner in the New York City office of Baker & McKenzie, reminds our viewers of the major impact that Wayfair has had on the business community and its tax advisers.
